Never mind the sales hype.  What are the critical factors that you need to establish before you
buy a data capture system?

Get it wrong and you’ll have to live with the consequences of inefficiency, inflexibility, poor productivity, inaccurate data and excessive cost for years to come.

So here’s some clues of how to get it right.  For the full report (including the answers to many of the issues we raise below) download our Buyer’s Guide to Data Capture Solutions HERE

1. Get to Know What’s Achievable

You’ve read the brochures and it all looks great.  But what are the issues that will determine whether you can turn theoretical benefits into real savings? You must identify the factors that could sabotage the expected ROI.

For example, what recognition rates are you told to expect?  Are these the same for hand-print, machine print, tick boxes and barcodes? If these are expressed as a percentage, a percentage of what – characters, fields, forms, documents?  Have you accounted for the fact that recognition expectations will not be the same for all documents?

Irrespective of quoted recognition rates, what proportion of read characters will be correct and how will you know?  How will you identify and correct recognition errors to prevent them corrupting your
corporate databases?
